Microsoft (MSFT) to invest more than USD 10bln in Middle East by 2030; also plans USD 400mln investment in Middle East subsea and terrestrial connectivity by 2030 US Energy Secretary Wright says sees natgas as 'America's Energy Super Power'; sees natgas pricing flattish for the next 5-10 years [UPDATED] UN General Assembly Schedule: Trump to meet with Pakistan PM Microsoft investment includes expansion of cloud and AI infrastructure in the region. Announcements of multi-year regional investment packages by the large hyperscalers have become a recurring feature of the AI buildout phase, and the pattern has been consistent: the headline sums are multi-year, largely front-loaded in narrative and back-loaded in spend, and the near-term earnings sensitivity is modest relative to the group capex already guided. The more durable read-through in past episodes has been to the supplier set rather than to the committing company itself, with the AI hardware chain, regional data centre operators and, in this case, the subsea and terrestrial connectivity contractors the natural beneficiaries of follow-on contract flow. The Gulf angle follows a well-established template in which hyperscaler commitments sit alongside sovereign ambitions to host AI compute capacity, with such deals historically accompanied by host-government arrangements around data residency, export compliance and local partnership structures. The connectivity tranche is the less standard element and worth noting separately, since cable and terrestrial investment has typically gone to specialist consortia rather than cloud operators, and signals where the bottleneck in the regional buildout is perceived to sit. Follow-ons in comparable episodes have been the disclosure of the first datacenter or cable contracts, any government co-commitment, and whether peers match the regional posture. As a corporate investment announcement rather than a guidance change, the immediate price effect in the parent has historically been limited.
