Chinese State Funds Backed Purchases of Restricted Nvidia AI Chips, Report Says
Yahoo Finance ·
A Chinese state-backed financing vehicle has funded acquisitions of restricted Nvidia processors, highlighting Beijing's active involvement in securing advanced US technology despite stringent export controls. According to a Bloomberg News report citing regulatory filings, Semi-Tech Leasing Group provided financing that enabled AI infrastructure firm Glory View Technology to acquire more than 700 servers. These transactions notably included at least 32 Asustek Computer servers powered by Nvidia's high-performance B300 Blackwell chips. Controlled primarily by municipal authorities in Beijing and Shenzhen, Semi-Tech Leasing has injected over 11 billion yuan into computational infrastructure. Through sale-and-leaseback agreements initiated in mid-2025, Glory View secured over 3 billion yuan to expand data center capacity, with much of the hardware destined for a China Mobile hub in Ningxia. Following scrutiny, the lessor revised its filings to remove specific hardware descriptions and supplier details, reflecting efforts to obscure supply chains supporting China's expanding artificial intelligence sector.

A financial institution backed by China's sovereign wealth fund has reportedly procured over 700 servers and high-performance NVIDIA Blackwell B300 chips, bypassing U.S. export controls. This raises concerns over the effectiveness of U.S. tech regulations and is expected to intensify scrutiny on related semiconductor supply chains. Investors should watch for potential tightening of U.S. sanctions against China and measures to block regulatory loopholes.
상승 영향
- Semiconductors — Continued demand and purchases of high-performance NVIDIA AI chips despite U.S. export controls, backed by China's sovereign fund, contribute to defending the short-term earnings of the related supply chain.
하락 영향
- Semiconductors — As regulatory loopholes are exposed, the U.S. government is likely to impose stronger and stricter export controls and sanctions against China, increasing long-term uncertainty.
DYAX 전담 분석
It has been revealed that Semi-Tech Leasing, affiliated with a Chinese local government, injected over 1.1 billion yuan (approx. $1.6 billion) into computing infrastructure to bypass and secure NVIDIA chips. While this indicates a regulatory gap and supports supply chain demand in the short term, it increases the risk of future additional U.S. sanctions.
The bullish scenario is that sustained AI investment from China maintains semiconductor demand, while the bearish scenario is that the creation of ultra-strong U.S. regulations completely blocks the supply chain. Key indicators to watch are the U.S. Department of Commerce's amendments to export controls against China and NVIDIA's compliance audit results.
