Oklo Partners with Meta for 1.2-Gigawatt Nuclear Project in Ohio
Yahoo Finance ·
Nuclear technology developer Oklo announced a partnership with Meta Platforms to build a 1.2-gigawatt nuclear facility in south central Ohio, supplying power to regional data centers. Pre-construction is slated for 2027, with main construction expected in late 2028 or 2029, targeting an initial launch around 2030, pending regulatory approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The project will utilize Aurora reactors, which are small modular reactors partially built in factories for efficiency. However, achieving significant scale by 2030 remains challenging due to the novel and untested nature of the technology. Meta is not alone in turning to nuclear energy for artificial intelligence infrastructure, as Microsoft previously secured a 20-year deal with Constellation Energy to restart a retired reactor at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania.

- Nuclear — Direct benefits are expected as demand for SMR and nuclear energy surges following the 1.2-gigawatt contract between Oklo and Meta.
- AI — AI infrastructure expansion is expected to accelerate as chronic power shortage issues in data centers can now be solved with nuclear energy.
DYAX 전담 분석
The 1.2-gigawatt nuclear contract between Oklo and Meta proves the value of nuclear power as a key alternative to solve the power shortage of AI data centers, putting upward pressure on the stock prices of related companies. The target operation date in 2030 and regulatory approval are major variables, and investors must monitor the commercialization speed of SMR technology and the scale of additional infrastructure investments by big tech companies.
