Uber Stock Rises After Major Restructuring Nauman Khan Wed, September 2, 2026 at 11:01 AM EDT 1 min read UBER This article first appeared on GuruFocus . Uber Technologies ( NYSE:UBER ) shares rose about 2% Wednesday after the company outlined a workforce overhaul that will eliminate roughly 3,300 positions as part of an effort to simplify its corporate structure. The reductions represent about 10% of Uber's global workforce. The company also plans to reduce management positions by 20%, while cutting the number of very small teams by nearly half. Warning! Uber intends to redirect savings toward its main transportation and delivery operations, as well as its robotaxi business. Several internal groups will be combined, including engineering, science and delivery functions, while restaurant, retail and white-label operations will also be consolidated. The restructuring will also change Uber's workplace policy. Most fully remote positions are expected to be eliminated, leaving such roles at about 1% of the workforce, while employees are concentrated around hubs including New York and San Francisco. The move follows a weaker period for Uber shares, which have faced pressure from growing competition in autonomous transportation. What it means for the stock: Investors appear to view the cost reductions as supportive, but execution and autonomous-vehicle competition remain key factors.
