Meta Shares Climb on Upcoming In-House AI Chip Integration Strategy
Yahoo Finance ·
Shares of Meta Platforms advanced 2% on Tuesday morning following a Bloomberg report that the tech giant intends to introduce new proprietary artificial intelligence chips into its data centers during the first half of next year. The stock later trimmed its advance to 0.75%. Designed to diminish reliance on Nvidia processors, the hardware is being developed in partnership with Broadcom for design and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. for production. Yee Jiun Song, Meta's engineering vice president overseeing custom silicon, noted that each generation offers enhanced energy and cost efficiency compared to current Nvidia alternatives. Twelve new model chips were recently delivered by TSMC, showing performance matching simulations within 2% to 3%. The hardware focuses on general-purpose inference utilizing high-bandwidth memory, prioritizing cost control as the firm expands capacity.

Meta's announcement of its deployment plan for its next-generation proprietary AI chip, MTIA, in data centers drove its stock up between 0.75% and 2%. Developed in partnership with Broadcom and manufactured by TSMC, this chip aims to reduce dependence on Nvidia processors and cut costs. Investors are responding positively, focusing on Meta's cost-saving effects and supply chain diversification.
상승 영향
- Semiconductors — Meta is adopting its own AI chips on a large scale in cooperation with TSMC and Broadcom, which is expected to increase orders for related foundry and design partners.
- AI — Meta is deploying high-efficiency AI inference chips at scale to reduce costs and increase model operational efficiency, easing the burden of AI infrastructure investment costs.
하락 영향
- Semiconductors — As Meta introduces its own chips to lower its dependence on Nvidia processors, concerns are raised over the potential loss of demand from major Nvidia clients.
DYAX 전담 분석
Meta's deployment of its own AI chips is shaking up the Nvidia-dominated chip ecosystem, directly impacting the related semiconductor supply chain. In particular, TSMC and Broadcom can secure additional earnings momentum through cooperation in new chip production and design, while Nvidia may face pressure from decreasing reliance by major clients.
The bullish scenario is that Meta's chip adoption will significantly reduce costs and improve margins, and the bearish scenario is that the chip's performance falls short of expectations, leading to a reversion to Nvidia products. Key monitoring indicators are TSMC's foundry production volume and Meta's data center chip utilization rate.
