Truist Says Nvidia GPU Price Hikes May Benefit CoreWeave
Yahoo Finance ·
While NVIDIA Corporation's reported 17% price hike for GPUs would typically pressure CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRWV), Truist Securities argues the opposite may hold true. On August 24, Truist analyst Arvind Ramnani lifted CRWV's price target to $165 from $155. Because CRWV already raised its product pricing by 25% in July, and NVIDIA's increases will mainly affect systems shipped early next year, the firm expects customer price hikes to hit books before hardware costs rise. This timing could lift contribution margins on future long-term contracts from 24% to 33%. With Q2 backlog exceeding $104 billion and over $25 billion in net new commitments secured in Q3, pricing power remains strong. Only Blackwell and Vera Rubin GPUs face hikes, driven by soaring HBM and DRAM costs benefiting Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. Nonetheless, Truist estimates the price hikes add roughly $8 billion in capital expenditures per gigawatt built, aligning with CRWV's 2026 capex guidance of $35 to $39 billion. While hedge funds like Alyeska increased stakes, heavy capital requirements remain a key risk.

Despite NVIDIA raising GPU prices by about 17%, Truist analyzes that CoreWeave (CRWV) can defend its margins thanks to a 25% customer price hike. Solid AI compute demand and a backlog exceeding $10.4 billion support this, raising expectations for short-term earnings improvement. However, massive capital requirements, such as a 2026 Capex guidance of $35 billion to $39 billion, remain a potential risk.
상승 영향
- AI — CoreWeave implemented a 25% price increase, offsetting the shock of NVIDIA's GPU price hikes and raising its contribution margin to 33%.
- Semiconductors — NVIDIA's GPU price increase stems from soaring memory costs like HBM and DRAM, which is positive for the earnings of Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron.
하락 영향
- Semiconductors — NVIDIA's GPU price hikes increase capital expenditures (Capex) per gigawatt for infrastructure companies like CoreWeave by approximately $800 million.
DYAX 전담 분석
NVIDIA's GPU price hike stems from soaring memory costs like HBM and DRAM, acting as a direct benefit to memory semiconductor suppliers such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron. Meanwhile, CoreWeave can enjoy margin improvements by proactively raising customer unit prices, but it bears the burden of additional capital expenditures (Capex) of approximately $800 million per gigawatt going forward.
In the bullish scenario, the persistence of AI compute demand and pricing power could drive short-term profit margins up to 33%, leading to valuation rerating. In the bearish scenario, massive capital expenditures and financing costs could compress profitability, acting as downward pressure on the stock price, with future order backlog trends and memory price movements serving as key monitoring indicators.
