Palantir CEO Makes Bold New Move in Defense AI Moz Farooque ACCA Wed, September 2, 2026 at 11:46 AM EDT 2 min read PLTR This article first appeared on GuruFocus . Palantir Technologies ( NASDAQ:PLTR ) CEO Alex Karp is backing a new defense-technology venture launched by former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, extending Karp's personal exposure to the battlefield innovation ecosystem that increasingly overlaps with Palantir's own government business. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the investment underscores a larger opportunity for Palantir: turning technologies and operational lessons developed during the Ukraine war into products for NATO and other allied militaries. Palantir builds software that helps governments and businesses integrate data, run operations and deploy artificial intelligence. Defense and intelligence agencies use its platforms for battlefield awareness, logistics, targeting support and decision-making, making government spending a major component of revenue. Fedorov said Karp will become the first major investor in his new company. The former Ukrainian defense chief has pursued projects involving battlefield robotics, interceptor drones and low-cost AI-enabled missiles after leaving government. Karp, who has worked with Fedorov for roughly five years, said the venture could bring Ukraine's wartime expertise as a product to allied countries. You and your colleagues are launching a company that I think will be defining for the world, Karp added. The investment fits Palantir's increasingly important defense story. In the second quarter, U.S. government revenue jumped 90% year over year to $809 million , while total company revenue surged 93% to $1.94 billion . Palantir closed $3.37 billion in total contract value during the quarter and generated a 62% adjusted operating margin. The investment itself is unlikely to materially change Palantir's financials. More important is whether Fedorov's venture creates new commercial pathways between battlefield-tested Ukrainian technology, Palantir software and allied defense customers . Investors should watch government contract growth, defense-AI deployments and whether Palantir continues converting geopolitical demand into large multiyear agreements. For Q3, management expects revenue of $2.160 billion to $2.164 billion and adjusted operating income of roughly $1.29 billion. Continued government growth near current levels would strengthen the defense thesis. Slower contract awards or government procurement delays would make Palantir's demanding growth expectations harder to sustain.
