Agoro Carbon Issues Its First Soil Carbon Credits, Advancing First Delivery Under Microsoft Agreement Business Wire Wed, September 23, 2026 at 11:19 AM EDT 5 min read MSFT First issuance to U.S. cropland and pastureland projects marks the first major milestone under the 12-year, 2.6 million-credit agreement with Microsoft announced in June 2025. Scientific modeling, field-level soil sampling and independent verification underpin Agoro Carbon's high quality-driven approach. More than 600 enrolled producers receive support to adopt regenerative agriculture, including over $30 million in transition prepayments to date. TAMPA, Fla., September 23, 2026 --( BUSINESS WIRE )--Agoro Carbon today announced the first issuance of carbon credits to its U.S. cropland and pastureland projects, marking a major milestone in the company's work to turn regenerative agricultural practices into independently verified soil carbon removals. The issuance also includes the first credit delivery under Agoro Carbon's 12-year agreement to deliver 2.6 million carbon removal credits to Microsoft, which is one of the largest soil-based carbon removals commitments in the market. The deal was announced in June 2025 after Agoro Carbon passed Microsoft's carbon-removal due diligence process, among the most rigorous in the market. The projects accelerate the transition to regenerative agricultural practices such as cover cropping, reduced tillage and improved grazing to increase carbon stored in soil while delivering tangible benefits such as improved soil health and carbon revenue. Agoro Carbon combines financial incentives and hands-on agronomic support with field-level measurement and scientific modeling. Its approach provides accurate measurement of the amount of carbon stored in the soil, while also connecting corporate demand for carbon removals with producers implementing these practices. The credits, covering the 2021 and 2022 vintages, were issued following Verra's validation and verification process for both projects: VCS 3634 (cropland) and VCS 3656 (pastureland), which are both registered under the VM0042 Improved Agricultural Land Management methodology, v2 . "At Agoro, we compete on integrity. Our quality-driven, farmer-focused approach is backed by rigorous science in how we design and monitor our projects, and by the hands-on support our agronomists provide to producers from initial implementation through sustained success," said Elliot Formal, CEO of Agoro Carbon. "Our projects sit on U.S. farmland, under long-term contracts with the producers who own it, and they sit firmly at the high-quality, high-durability end of the nature-based market. That is what a premium carbon removal credit looks like, and it is what our buyers are choosing when they work with us, while our producers build more resilient operations for the future." Agoro Carbon's program spans 34 U.S. states and includes more than 600 enrolled producers across 2.5 million acres. Annual issuances from these projects are planned through 2037, and credit supply beyond the Microsoft agreement is available to other corporate buyers who are seeking credible, high-integrity solutions to meet their climate commitments. Agoro Carbon supports practice adoption through upfront financing and ongoing agronomic guidance. The company has already paid more than $30 million in prepayments to help farmers and ranchers transition to regenerative agriculture. Agoro's Grower Success Team stays directly engaged with producers throughout their 10-year contracts, providing agronomic support to implement and maintain practices suited to their operations and confirming implementation in the field. Approximately one-third of Agoro's staff work in grower-facing roles, reflecting the company's commitment to sustained, hands-on support. "Now 5 years in, our decision to partner with Agoro in making our transition to No-Till Agricultural practices is one of the best decisions we have ever made on our farm. Working with Agoro's agronomists and our local agronomists we were able to put together a transition plan that made sense both economically and agronomically. After 5 years we have seen our soil health improve and our ROI per acre is far above what it used to be with conventional tillage practices. The additional revenue Agoro has provided to us each year has given us the ability to keep updating our technology and reduce our input costs. We will continue to work with our Agoro agronomist to improve our cropping systems and keep building our soil health and hopefully in the future reduce our need for higher cost inputs," said Clint Myers from Latah, WA. Agoro Carbon's carbon accounting combines field-level soil sampling, process-based modeling and independent third-party validation and verification. It rests on one of the largest soil datasets in the United States and includes more than 110,000 soil samples collected across enrolled acres using stratified, GPS-verified field sampling, and analyzed in independent labs through dry combustion. Results from those samples calibrate peer-reviewed, process-based modeling. Agoro Carbon's sampling program has achieved an average margin of error of 7.06% at 90% confidence from more than 500 growers' data, surpassing common industry benchmarks and providing a substantial evidence base for quantifying soil carbon changes. "Agricultural soils are one of the largest and most underused carbon sinks we have, and turning that potential into credible, verified removals is hard work. This issuance reflects a rigorous, data-driven pathway from soil sample to verified credit under VM0042 , and it's a strong signal that U.S. agriculture can deliver high-integrity carbon removals at scale," said Verra CEO Mandy Rambharos. Agoro Carbon plans to move to Verra's VM0042 v3 methodology once it is published, expected in early 2027. The move is intended to support Core Carbon Principles eligibility for future issuances, subject to Verra's timeline and the Integrity Council's assessment. Agoro Carbon partners with farmers and ranchers to sequester carbon in the soil and generate verified soil carbon credits. Agoro Carbon, founded by Yara International, drives global adoption of regenerative agriculture practices through high-quality, science-based carbon solutions and provides businesses an opportunity to invest in climate-positive agriculture.
