Ocean Power Technologies and Stratum Sign LOI for Renewable Offshore Data Center
Yahoo Finance ·
Ocean Power Technologies Inc and Stratum Holdings have executed a non-binding letter of intent to showcase an offshore data center powered by wave, wind, and solar electricity. Under the proposed terms, Ocean Power will grant Stratum a limited, non-exclusive license to specific PowerBuoy patents and supply available prototype units. Meanwhile, Stratum will contribute graphics processing units, including advanced NVIDIA B300 chips, integration expertise, and a monthly retainer fee. The pilot aims to examine if edge AI inference and associated tasks can operate primarily on onboard renewable power without requiring shore-based cables. Ocean Power Acting CEO Tracy Pagliara noted the collaboration targets self-powered edge AI infrastructure, while Stratum CEO Nicholas Adler emphasized the potential bandwidth savings and natural marine cooling advantages. Ocean Power maintains over 60 global patents for its PowerBuoy technology, and initial phases will concentrate on system integration, performance checks, and data collection.

Ocean Power Technologies and Stratum have signed a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) to test offshore data centers powered by renewable energy such as wave and solar power. This collaboration tests the feasibility of powering edge AI infrastructure with self-generated offshore electricity, demonstrating the potential to solve traditional data center power and cooling cost issues. Investors should pay attention to the commercialization potential of offshore data centers and the stock volatility of related infrastructure companies.
상승 영향
- AI — Stratum supplies NVIDIA B300 chips for offshore data center testing and presents a new AI infrastructure model utilizing marine natural cooling and renewable energy, which can drive related demand.
- Renewable Energy — If Ocean Power's PowerBuoy technology, based on marine renewable energy such as wave, wind, and solar power, proves its potential as an independent power source for offshore data centers, related technology expansion is expected.
DYAX 전담 분석
Ocean Power's patented PowerBuoy technology is combined with Stratum's latest NVIDIA B300 GPU chips to test the feasibility of off-grid marine AI computing infrastructure. By utilizing the natural cooling effects of the marine environment and renewable energy without onshore power cables, this structure reduces the chronic power shortages and cooling costs of data centers.
Depending on the success of future prototype testing and the signing of formal contracts, stock volatility of related technology stocks is expected to increase. Key monitoring indicators are system integration performance verification results, offshore power source stability, and AI edge computing efficiency.
