AMD Introduces Helion Open Rack Blueprint for Agentic AI

Yahoo Finance ·

AMD has revealed AMD Helion, an open rack-scale infrastructure blueprint tailored for agentic AI, built around Open Compute Project standards and powered by the firm's advanced processor and accelerator lineup. The new architecture expands upon the open-design approach seen in the AMD Helios system, offering customizable frameworks that merge CPU density and power with GPU acceleration for diverse workloads. AMD enterprise AI senior vice president Dan McNamara noted that the platform accommodates varying computational demands across personal agents and complex enterprise workflows. The company outlined two reference setups, including a CPU-only rack featuring up to 32,768 cores from 6th Gen AMD EPYC processors and a hybrid configuration combining EPYC CPUs with AMD Instinct MI350P GPUs. Supporting both air and liquid cooling, the OCP-based blueprint will be submitted to the Open Compute Project, with commercial availability scheduled for November 2026. Additionally, AMD recently agreed to acquire AI research startup World Labs in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2bn.
