AMD Hits $1 Trillion Market Cap as Analysts See More Upside in AI and CPU Growth

Yahoo Finance ·

Semiconductor giant AMD has officially surpassed a $1 trillion market valuation following an impressive 194% surge year-to-date. I/O Fund Lead Tech Analyst Beth Kindig believes the chipmaker's AI potential remains significantly undervalued as it enters a brand-new chapter. Six years ago, when AMD held a mere 4% of the data-center CPU market against Intel, Kindig framed the company as a dark horse relying on the Zen architecture to steadily capture market share. Today, she sees a comparable setup unfolding in the GPU space currently dominated by Nvidia Corp. (NVDA). Kindig noted that capturing a 15% to 20% GPU market share could yield a two- to four-fold expansion for AMD. Meanwhile, CEO Lisa Su highlighted unprecedented customer demand for the upcoming Zen 6-based Venice EPYC generation during August's second-quarter earnings call. Furthermore, the Helios platform, combining Venice CPUs, MI450 GPUs, Pensando networking, and ROCm software, is ramping up from late Q3 into Q4. Driven by surging AI infrastructure demand, Su projects data-center growth to exceed 100% in 2027. Amid these developments, BofA raised its price target on AMD to $720 from $620 with a Buy rating on Friday, pointing to the rising importance of CPUs for agentic AI workloads.

DYAX 전담 분석

AMD surged 194% year-to-date to record a market capitalization of $1 trillion, and Bank of America (BofA) raised its price target to $720. This is driven by expectations that the introduction of Zen 6-based Venice CPU and Helios GPU platforms can expand its market share in the AI accelerator and data center markets to 15-20%.

In the bullish scenario, driven by hyperscalers' demand to reduce AI inference costs, the data center business could achieve over 100% growth by 2027, while in the bearish scenario, there is a risk that NVIDIA's (NVDA) market dominance remains solid, preventing AMD from securing the expected market share. Key monitoring metrics are the utilization rate of the Helios platform starting at the end of the third quarter and the quarterly data center revenue growth rate.
