X-energy, Amazon, and AEP Partner for 960 MW Indiana Nuclear Project
Yahoo Finance ·
X-energy and American Electric Power have announced a joint development agreement to assess the feasibility of a 960-megawatt small modular reactor project in Indiana. The initiative involves deploying twelve Xe-100 reactors, each with an 80-megawatt capacity, near the former Breed Generating Station in Sullivan County. Amazon will fund development milestones and purchase power via a long-term contract. This partnership marks the second commercial deployment under the collaboration between X-energy and Amazon, which targets over 5 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity on the U.S. grid by 2039. At the time of reporting, X-energy shares rose 2 percent, Amazon gained 3.75 percent, and AEP declined 1.13 percent. AEP CEO Bill Fehrman emphasized that the agreements provide essential financial safeguards for the utility. X-energy's global commercial pipeline now totals roughly 11.5 gigawatts across multiple ventures.
