US Diesel Supplies Slump To 23-Year Lows; Oil Prices Lower After Trump's Comments, SPR Drain
ZeroHedge ·

Crude oil prices extended their downward trajectory as market participants digested political shifts and supply metrics. US diesel inventories tumbled below the 100 million barrel threshold for the initial time since 2003, reaching a 23-year low. According to Department of Energy figures for the week ending October 30, commercial crude stockpiles contracted by 865,000 barrels, marking the fifth consecutive weekly decline. This drawdown was reinforced by an extra 399,000 barrel release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, bringing the cumulative nationwide crude reduction to 1.26 million barrels. Under an International Energy Agency-coordinated relief plan initiated in late March, a total of 133 million barrels has now been drained from the SPR. Gasoline reserves shrank by 222,000 barrels, while distillate inventories plummeted by 3.565 million barrels. Conversely, domestic crude production ticked upward, surpassing 14 million barrels per day for the first time in weekly records dating back to 1983. Baker Hughes reported that active US oil rigs increased by two units, bringing the operational rig count to 4.
AI 시장 분석
US diesel inventories plummeted to a 23-year low, while crude oil prices declined due to Trump's remarks and the release of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. DOE data shows crude inventories fell for the fifth consecutive week, and distillate inventories dropped by 3.56 million barrels. Investors should monitor refining margin changes due to diesel supply shortages and supply-demand imbalances in the crude market.
상승 영향
- Energy — US diesel inventories plummeted to a 23-year low, raising expectations for expanded refining margins and improved profitability for related companies.
하락 영향
- Crude Oil — Continuous release of strategic reserves and crude production exceeding 14 million barrels per day heighten oversupply concerns, increasing downward pressure on crude prices.
- Airlines — Increased fuel cost volatility due to refined product supply shortages, including diesel, acts as a negative factor increasing operating cost burdens for airlines.
DYAX 전담 분석
Domestic US diesel inventories fell below 100 million barrels for the first time since 2003, with deepening diesel supply shortages acting as upward pressure on refining margins. Meanwhile, the release of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and crude production surpassing 14 million barrels per day are acting as downward pressure on crude prices.
The bullish scenario is that the diesel supply crunch persists, causing refinery profitability to surge, while the bearish scenario is that crude oversupply causes a correction in the broader energy sector. Key indicators to monitor going forward are weekly inventory data and refinery operation rates.
