IREN Just Got a Reality Check From Wall Street Faizan Farooque Mon, September 28, 2026 at 10:52 AM EDT 2 min read IREN NVDA MSFT This article first appeared on GuruFocus . IREN Limited ( IREN , Financials ) declined by 3% in premarket trade after Jones trade launched coverage with a Hold recommendation, citing multiple obstacles that hinder the AI cloud company's growth story despite robust computer capacity demand. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 7 Warning Signs with IREN. Is IREN fairly valued? Test your thesis with our free DCF calculator. Analyst Kevin Dede called IREN "polarizing," citing its vast customer base and its only investment-grade customer, Microsoft (MSFT). The cautious call comes despite IREN winning major AI business this year. The company signed a $3.4 billion cloud services contract and a $2.1 billion share repurchase arrangement with Nvidia (NVDA) in May for up to $5.5 billion. When it posted fiscal fourth-quarter earnings in August, IREN announced a multiyear AI cloud contract with a "leading frontier AI lab". IREN has shown it can deliver high-performance computing capacity when AI demand exceeds supply, Dede said. However, the analyst found other issues. Dede estimates that 45% of IREN's shares are held by retail investors. He also noted IREN's executive compensation after the board granted co-founders and co-CEOs William and Daniel Roberts 9.1 million restricted stock units apiece in June. Dede called those grants "lavish stock award." Despite such worries, the analyst noted that robust demand for AI and high-performance computing capacity and relatively low AI cloud group valuations could make the industry attractive. Jones Trading prefers alternative data-center expansion businesses for now. Other Wall Street experts are more hopeful. According to TipRanks, IREN has eight Buy and three Hold recommendations in the past three months. The average analyst price estimate of $76 is 72% higher than its report price. IREN's burgeoning AI cloud business must add more high-quality customers and translate rising processing capacity demand into growth strong enough to override concerns about concentration, ownership, and remuneration.
