Massive market rotation raises question: Is the sell-AI trade here to stay? Senad Karaahmetovic Thu, November 5, 2026 at 6:47 AM EST 3 min read AMZN +1.53% MSFT +0.23% GOOG +0.89% META +0.96% Investing.com - Tech saw a sharp rotation into hyperscalers on Wednesday, while semiconductors and data center infrastructure stocks came under pressure as a Democratic election win triggered a huge thematic rotation. Amazon rose 6.1% on the session, Microsoft gained 6.7%, Alphabet climbed 3.2%, and Meta added 1.4%. Still guessing which stocks will beat the market? Our AI portfolio updates monthly and is outperforming the S&P 500 by 118%. See this month's list » "Our US desk is seeing a clear rotation into Hyperscalers from both LOs and HFs," Goldman's trading desk wrote, with long-only funds and hedge funds both participating. "Investors viewed the Democratic win as potentially making new builds harder and existing, power-secured compute more valuable," Goldman's TMT specialists added. Tighter permitting, water and power rules, fewer tax breaks, and the possibility of temporary moratoria all figured in the calculus. If new data-centre capacity is harder and slower to bring online, the argument goes that hyperscalers already operating powered, operational infrastructure hold a durable competitive edge. "Scarcer powered capacity could lift prices and strengthen existing operators' competitive advantage, while leaving future-capacity providers behind," they said. Hyperscalers posted broad gains, while semiconductor stocks fell, led by declines among neocloud companies. CoreWeave fell 9.9% and Nebius dropped 6.7%, with other neo-cloud and data-centre builder names also declining. Memory names including Micron weakened alongside the selloff. Unsure what to buy ahead of earnings? Our AI's recent pre-earnings calls delivered gains of +77% to +118% after results dropped. See this month's earnings picks » The rotation was amplified by a confluence of capacity-risk headlines. Brad Gerstner, speaking on the "All-In" podcast, argued regulatory friction from the Democratic win could halt 10–15 GW of expected 2027 data-centre capacity. Goldman noted that figure was already below more bullish street estimates; Gerstner had in September said only roughly 25 GW was realistic in the US. Separately, research firm SemiAnalysis flagged 16.7 GW of planned 2028 Texas capacity as at risk. "The main point is that the election now adds political risk on top of already bullish street forecasts well above 30GW," Goldman said. For semis, the concern is not just slower demand but a potential inventory overhang. Goldman relayed sceptic arguments that "there is a risk now is that the semis narrative flips to inventory correction if power/sites lag chip deliveries." The Financial Times reported that AWS is taking delivery of roughly $3bn of Nvidia GB300 racks per month but staging some in warehouses because certain sites have space without sufficient power, an echo of the 2022–23 inventory correction that rattled the sector. "Structurally, sustained AI growth requires the cost of compute to keep falling esp. for further major advances and higher compute costs reduce the displacement pressure on spaces like traditional software and media." In other words, if regulatory friction permanently raises the cost of new compute rather than simply delaying it, the AI investment thesis itself comes under scrutiny. AI 시장 분석
Amid concerns over tightening regulations following the US Democratic victory, a massive market rotation occurred, causing large cloud companies to rise while semiconductor and data center infrastructure stocks fell. Hyperscalers like Amazon and Microsoft rose 6.1% and 6.7% respectively due to the highlighted scarcity of power-secured infrastructure, while CoreWeave and Micron showed weakness. Investors are watching whether permitting delays and power regulations will restrict new data center construction and benefit existing operators.
상승 영향
- AI — Hyperscalers with pre-secured power (Amazon +6.1%, Microsoft +6.7%) benefit from strengthened competitive advantages due to rising barriers to entry and highlighted scarcity.
하락 영향
- Semiconductors — As data center construction is delayed due to regulations, the risk of inventory adjustments driven by power shortages relative to chip shipments increased, putting downward pressure on CoreWeave (-9.9%) and Micron.
