Nvidia ( NVDA ) rose nearly 3% in Monday morning trading after the company added $150 billion to its existing share repurchase authorization. The increase takes Nvidia's remaining buyback capacity to about $235 billion, with the program extending through fiscal 2028. Buybacks totaled about $10 billion in fiscal 2023 and nearly $34 billion in fiscal 2025, according to the report. Last year, the company had authorized $50 billion for additional purchases. Chief Executive Jensen Huang said Nvidia can continue investing in new technologies while returning capital to shareholders. The company's latest authorization comes as it continues to benefit from demand for AI computing. Share repurchases can lower the number of shares in circulation, potentially increasing earnings per share when net income is unchanged. Mizuho analyst Jordan Klein said the buyback could also reflect management's view that Nvidia shares offer an appealing use of capital at current levels.
