Looking for consumer and investor sentiment trends? Turn to social media. Yahoo Finance Video Wed, September 23, 2026 at 1:32 PM EDT ^GSPC AAPL Jessica Inskip, StockBrokers.com director of Investor Research, explains to the Market Hang panel how social media algorithms are great for gauging investor sentiment and consumer demand. spend a lot of time on social media as you know, and it always amazes me when I have humbling moments where I show um I remember this very specific short form video I made where I said the S&P 500 always goes up and this is why and I showed the composition of it where it was mainly industrials and then it adjusts and how now it's more artificial intelligence and how it's constantly adjusting and rebalancing. Point of telling you this story is that went viral. I thought that was obvious information, but it wasn't. And consumers, especially because we have this new influx of a retail trader, they don't know what they don't know. So there's a trend of index investing. It's our duties, I believe, to explain what is within those indices, but I I don't think that a lot of people are aware of that and they should be. So you you brought something up about social media. If if you guys don't follow her on Instagram, it's phenomenal. Highly, highly recommend. Um going back to meta just for a second. So your your uh you have a huge platform, a big user. Do you separate that Jessica as a user of meta versus an investor or No, but um, I have a weird brain. I'm just going to admit that right now. Cheers to that. Thank you. Uh I think social media is so under utilized and I'll tell you why. And I I luckily because I have a big following I get to talk to them all the time and I like to understand how the algorithms work. And it works just like the market to me. Meaning if it pushes out something to a small set of people. And then if they like it because it's a business, they want you to stay on the platform so they can send you more ads and and make more revenue. If they like it then they're going to send it out to a bigger one and then a bigger one. So think of it as a almost as a a wave. It's a little ripple and then does it turn into a tsunami. If something turns into a tsunami, that is actually usually an investment opportunity. It's a signal please do not ever make any investment decisions based off of social media. but and further investigate. But for example, when the uh Apple Neo MacBook first came out, when viral on social media first before analyst even caught onto it. So if a lot of people are buying it, then that's going to translate into revenue for public companies. So I think that there It's another way to understand consumer behavior. And then in my finance vertical very specifically, I can understand investor sentiment and trader behavior.
