MongoDB ( NASDAQ:MDB ), the database software company, fell 16.43% in premarket after it said CEO Chirantan "CJ" Desai had stepped down, effective immediately, to take a senior role at Meta Platforms ( NASDAQ:META ). Ittycheria ran the company from 2014 to 2025, a period in which annual revenue grew from about $35 million to more than $2.3 billion, and he has stayed on as an executive board member since. The board has hired an executive search firm to find a permanent replacement. Chairman Tom Killalea said "MongoDB's business is strong." The company also reaffirmed the third-quarter and fiscal 2027 guidance it issued on Sept. 1. The timing is awkward, with MongoDB set to host an Investor Day at Nasdaq MarketSite on Tuesday, Sept. 29, where the leadership team will outline its long-term strategy.
