Uber Is Cutting 10% of Its Workforce to Fund Its Next Big Bet Faizan Farooque Wed, September 2, 2026 at 11:46 AM EDT 1 min read UBER This article first appeared on GuruFocus . Uber Technologies Inc. ( UBER , Financials ) is reducing its employment by as much as 10% as Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi seeks to make the company more nimble and efficient. The reform will reduce managerial levels, streamline teams and increase the number of staff at key hubs like as New York and San Francisco.Uber, too, is cutting remote employment hard. Going future, telecommuting will only be permitted for around 1% of the workforce. Khosrowshahi said the company's sales have tripled, but the increase has also made Uber more complicated. Timing is everything.Uber is spending more money into autonomous driving, a sector that may take a lot of investment before it can generate large revenues. The business intends to focus people and resources on its largest prospects, including drivers, couriers, merchants and what Khosrowshahi called the autonomous future. The move seemed to placate investors. Uber shares were up more than 2% in premarket trade Wednesday, with Lyft also gaining. For stockholders, the restructuring offers an obvious tradeoff.Uber is working to save organizational expenses today, while retaining the flexibility to spend aggressively on autonomous technology future. The next question is how much the cuts boost profitability, and whether the savings are ultimately funneled into Uber's burgeoning autonomous-driving ambitions.
