The advance came the day after the e-commerce company reported third-quarter results on November 3, during a session where all five companies on its Trefis peer list also climbed. So what did Coupang’s quarter show? Coupang Beat Sales Estimates With Mixed Per-Share Results Coupang’s revenue reached $9.96 billion for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, clearing the analysts’ consensus estimate of $9.76 billion. Sales grew 7.5% from a year earlier. Measured at constant exchange rates, management put growth at 11%, exceeding the 8% to 9% range it had guided to. Against estimates, the per-share results proved mixed. Coupang recorded $248 million in costs during the quarter from a July fire at one of its fulfillment centers. Including the fire, the company posted a loss of $0.28 per share. Excluding it, the loss was about $0.18 per share. That missed the $0.09 loss in our earnings calendar’s consensus but beat the Zacks consensus of a $0.23 loss. Management also discussed Product Commerce, its main retail business. The segment generated an adjusted EBITDA margin of 4.6%, down about 420 basis points from a year earlier. Management tied part of the decline to last year’s data incident, after which some WOW members left. Management believes the third quarter was the low point for that margin and expects it to return to about pre-incident levels by the middle of 2027. Did Coupang Rise Alone Or With Other Retailers? Coupang climbed with other retailers, advancing further than any of its five Trefis peers. Etsy gained 7.1% and Amazon added 6.1% that session, and XLY, the SPDR fund for consumer discretionary stocks, rose 4.3%. Such a large advance is rare for Coupang. Only one other session in the previous 365 days brought a gain at least this big: a 14.1% rise on June 11, 2026. The stock remains far below where it traded a year ago. Coupang stock lost 46.9% over the twelve months to November 4, 2026, while the S&P 500 returned 14.9%. Its highest close during that period was $32.13 on November 4, 2025, and its lowest was $13.75 on September 28, 2026. The stock has climbed back part of the way over the past month, returning 18.2% from October 6 to November 4 while the S&P 500 lost 1.6%. Coupang’s next report will cover the fourth quarter of 2026. Management expects revenue growth of 13% to 14% at constant exchange rates for that quarter, and that growth rate is the number to watch.
