Amazon expands rapid delivery product range in Brazil

Amazon has increased the number of products available through its 15-minute delivery service in Brazil by 15% due to robust demand for fresh food, a company executive told Reuters . It initially launched with grocery deliveries in selected areas across eight Brazilian cities, and coverage has since grown to include Osasco, part of Sao Paulo’s metropolitan region. The expanded product line-up features a marked increase in the number of available fruit and vegetable items. “We are very positively surprised by fresh food acceptance, which we hadn’t sold before,” according to Fernanda Grumach, shopping experience director at Amazon’s Brazilian operations. She also said the World Cup had lifted demand in Brazil for products such as football stickers, snacks and drinks. Amazon Now began in the US last year, delivering everyday essentials and groceries within 30 minutes in parts of several major cities, before the service extended to Mexico, India, Japan and the UK. It reached Mexico towards the end of last year. For its Brazilian rollout, Amazon has teamed up with Colombian delivery platform Rappi, an arrangement that includes shared logistics hubs and mirrors a similar partnership already running in Mexico. Amazon faces competition in Brazil’s e-commerce sector from MercadoLibre and Shopee, and, according to Reuters , could soon also be rivalling iFood, the Prosus-owned meal delivery app that leads Brazil’s meal delivery market. In May, Amazon extended the reach of Amazon Now in the US , bringing 30-minute delivery of groceries and household goods to millions more customers in cities such as Austin, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Oklahoma City, Orlando and Phoenix.
