4 (More) Dividend ETFs Worth Holding for the Long Haul

Yahoo Finance ·

Back in July, I wrote about four dividend ETFs designed for long-term buy-and-hold investors. They were Schwab U.S. Dividend Growth ETF , Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF , WisdomTree U.S. Quality Dividend Growth ETF , and Vanguard International High Dividend Yield ETF . But with more than 200 different dividend ETFs to choose from, they're not the only ones that are great for long-term investing. Dividend investing has returned in a big way in 2026. While tech and artificial intelligence (AI) stocks still get most of the attention, dividend stocks are actually beating the S&P 500 index. The WisdomTree U.S. Total Dividend ETF , which I like to use as my proxy for the entire dividend stock universe, is outperforming the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF by roughly 2% this year. This is happening as the Federal Reserve considers rate increases later this year, inflation remains stubbornly above 3%, and investors reconsider how much they're willing to pay for recent winners.

In 2026, dividend investing is signaling a strong return, outperforming the S&P 500 index by approximately 2%. Amid the Federal Reserve's consideration of rate hikes and inflation remaining above 3%, investors are shifting their focus from high-valuation tech stocks to dividend stocks. This further highlights the appeal of dividend growth ETFs that generate stable cash flow from a long-term investment perspective.

Persistent inflation and the possibility of additional rate hikes by the Fed are acting as a burden on high-valuation growth stocks, forming a causal relationship where capital is shifting toward dividend stocks. This is proven by actual returns, such as the WisdomTree U.S. Total Dividend ETF outperforming the S&P 500 ETF by 2%.

In the bullish scenario, capital inflows into dividend stocks and dividend growth ETFs with stable cash flows will accelerate amid inflation and increased interest rate volatility. In the bearish scenario, aggressive Fed tightening could diminish the relative appeal of dividend stocks, requiring close monitoring of future Fed rate decisions and inflation indicators.
